Born in 1938 in South Bend, Indiana, John Baeder spent much of his childhood in Atlanta, Georgia. Baeder earned a B.A. from Auburn University and eventually moved to New York to begin a career in advertising.
In the 1970s he emerged in the art world as a Photo-Realist, concentrating on urban scenes. His special focus has been diners, a subject in which he has been interested since his youth, and the interplay of advertising signs and logos.
